How your donation can help your local community

~ The Vail Valley Salvation Army has helped me with food and medications.  If it weren’t for them I would have struggled so much.  I love the Salvation Army.  They are a knight in shining armor. ~

~ I have been a resident for 6 years in this beautiful valley.  The Vail Valley Salvation Army has been a blessing to me and my family in great times of need.  Salvation Army thanks for being a vessel to help those in need. ~

~ The encouragement I received from the staff of the Vail Valley Salvation Army was awesome.  They helped me with food and a bus pass to look for work.  I was really down and feeling depressed.  They lifted my spirits and helped me make it through this unusually long and hard winter. ~

The Vail Valley Salvation Army has numerous ways for you to make a donation.  While a financial contribution is always needed to run the numerous programs we offer the community, we are also in need of food donations and volunteers.

 ~ Adopt-A-Family Program ~

One volunteer’s story as told to us last Christmas makes the case succinctly: “I was very apprehensive upon driving up to a home in Minturn where l was to deliver my Adopt-A-Family Christmas gifts. I didn’t know the family and they didn’t know me.

“Driving up I saw three small faces pressed to a plastic window anticipating my arrival. Entering the small home I felt like Santa Claus bearing gifts. The family had no tree, no Christmas lights and no gifts. The children shared a bed and blankets covered the broken windows.

“The family had been getting by; however, the mother could no longer work due to a severe medical situation with a younger child. The father was working two full-time jobs. The family did not have adequate food, blankets or clothing. I arranged for additional food to be delivered to the family.”

This volunteer contacted Salvation Army who paid the rent for one month, arranged with the landlord to have the windows repaired and with the help of a local bank paid some of the outstanding medical bills. The family eventually was able to move to affordable housing. This case is one of many; the need shows why our volunteers keep returning year after year.

~ Food Donations ~
The Vail Valley Salvation Amry's Food Bank Program operates three food banks in the Vail Valley at the following locations: 1) Vail Interfaith Chapel 2) the Vail Valley Salvation Army Office in Edwards and 3) United Methodist Church in Eagle.  These three food banks serve those in need throughout the Vail Valley with food, diapers and hygiene products. Families are allowed to visit our food pantry once every 2 weeks.

In addition to our Food Pantries, the Vail Valley Salvation Army operates a Food Basket Program over the holiday season.  This programs allows families who have been identified as families in need by us and other help organizations in the valley to recieve a box full of food so that they can experience the spirit of the holidays over a hearty meal.  Both food donations as well as volunteers are needed to help assemble and deliver food baskets the Saturdays before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Information about our Food Pantry and Food Basket Program ~

Over the past three years the Vail Valley Salvation Army has seen a significant increase in people coming and using these services.  Donations are always needed to fill our year round pantries as well as holiday food baskets.  We except any non-perishable items.  These items can be dropped off at our office located in Edwards Mon-Friday 9-4:30pm. All donations are tax deductible.

~ Thank God this program exists. They have helped us a lot. We are unemployed, and if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have anything to eat. We are very grateful for this. May God continue blessing each and one of the people working in this program.  ~
